TÍTULO:

Transformations of the world of work and its effects: the subjectivity of women journalists in the city of São Paulo

PÁGINAS: 95
GRANDE ÁREA: Ciências Humanas
ÁREA: Sociologia
SUBÁREA: Outras Sociologias Específicas
RESUMO:
This research analyzes how global media transformations have come to Brazil and how they affect the working world of journalists, especially working women in this field who are over 40 years old. It is intended to investigate how the transformations of the "business" journalism contribute to a new format of the journalist's world of work in Brazil. The growth of digital media - which, because it attracts shy advertising revenue, is less profitable than traditional media - rather than print, and the concentration of the communications industry are key points for such research. Five families control half of the 50 vehicles with the largest audience in Brazil, in a patriarchal structure that is reflected in the area's labor market. Women are known to be the majority in this professional category and although more educated, they are subjected to more precarious positions and earlier exit from the market. However, studies are lacking on who these women are and what professional and income alternatives they find from the moment they stop practicing journalism. Above all, there is a lack of research that investigates the subjectivity of women in the face of these processes, because it is relevant to understand how they, inserted in structural transformations and particularly affected, understand such changes. It is also the objective of this research to understand when and how informality and exit from the job market occur when we look specifically at female journalists over 40; identify whether this exit from the labor market was compulsory or voluntary; investigate what alternatives these women seek to maintain or earn income; and understand how early expulsion from the labor market affects their social identity.
