RESUMO:

This dissertation seeks to deal with the set of factors that led to economic and mainly technological development in China. It focuses on China's data and telecommunications industry, specifically on 5G technology. To this end, the dissertation seeks to follow the path of development from two theories related to the Global Value Chains and Economic Complexity. The goal is to measure the extent of China's data and telecommunications industry and understand how it has become a protagonist in a highly competitive and technological marketplace in a short period of time. To this end, in addition to the methodology of both theories, it uses a timely historical analysis highlighting achievements that may have contributed to the birth and development of this branch of industry, so the period addressed is after the entry of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) into the power (1949), contemplating Mao Zedong's economic and social reforms, which provided fundamental support for Deng Xiaoping's pragmatic and modern performance and his economic policies commonly classified as "trade liberalization." In addition, this paper proposes, in addition to sectoral analysis, to counter theses that economic development and complex technological enhancement would originate from commercial adaptation in modern variants of Ricardian models and / or China's shift to a proxy for the Western capitalist mode of production, such as is postulated neoclassical western theorists.
