SUMMARY:

The present work aims to understand how ethnic instrumentalisation operates in Guinea-Bissau. For this, it sought to study its process of formation, colonization and independence. It then looked at the challenges emerging in the construction of the new state after independence, and thus gave significant attention to political tribalism and multipartyism, in order to understand the proliferation of ethnic instrumentalisation, that is, the use of ethnic identities for political purposes.
