THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONTRADICTIONS BETWEEN CHINA AND THE US - Imperialism and the dispute over Taiwan and the South China Sea
The present work intends to analyze the deepening of the contradictions and rivalries between China and the United States from the theoretical debate on imperialism. In recent years, especially since 2018, the trade war between China and the United States has deepened, drawing attention to the evolution of contradictions and rivalries between the two. Since 2001, since the US invasion of Afghanistan, there has been a greater advance of US imperialism over the Middle East region. At the same time, China and Russia intensified their strategic relationship and, seeking to react to the US advance in the Middle East region, they developed alliances with Iran, Syria and the countries of the Caspian Sea. From this juncture, the problem posed by the present work concerns the increase in tensions and competition between China and the US, more specifically in the territory of Taiwan and in the South China Sea. The objective of this work is to analyze whether these tensions have actually been increasing in recent years. To do so, we will use the theory of imperialism, seeking to understand how the concepts of uneven development and imperialism can help in the observation of these contradictions, shedding light on the geopolitics problem of China and the US in the region. With this objective, we will make a bibliographical and empirical analysis, prioritizing the authors who discuss the contradictions between China and the USA in the present day.
