SUMMARY:

This research proposes to discuss the relationship between natural resources and sovereignty from a analysis of iron ore extraction in Brazil during the commodity boom period, between 2003 and 2014, based on the study of the global iron ore value chain, checking for where the economic value generated was directed. To do so, we will study iron ore in its commercial, financial, fiscal and socio-environmental aspects, with a view to understanding its place in global value chains. We will also point to the need for other milestones for exploration of natural resources, from contexts of formation of projects of greater sovereignty and autonomy, that use the resources and values generated from exploration for the promotion of development and social welfare, through its own industrialization path, understood by us as a new industrialization.
