Dear colleagues,

It is our pleasure to invite you to the launch of the ASN Short Book Series with an inaugural book by Samir Amin, entitled The Agrarian Question beyond Neoliberalism: Essays on the Peasantry, Sovereignty and Socialism. The launch will be held on 16 March. Please find attached the book in PDF, plus information on the launch.

Our Short Book Series aims to provide freely accessible and easily readable books in digital format in an effort to disseminate more widely important works and ideas produced by key thinkers mainly in the regions of the South. We will also seek to translate these books, where resources permit.

We will be collecting and republishing articles which have already appeared in our journal and we will also be inviting new work of political and theoretical relevance focused on the current crisis and its effects on regions and the system as a whole.

This first book by Samir Amin consists of three essays written in the last decade, which we were honoured to publish in our journal. The book begins with a Preface by Issa Shivji.

The Short Book Series is a collaboration between the ASN and the Sam Moyo African Institute for Agrarian Studies (Harare), the Centre for Agrarian Research and Education for South (New Delhi), and Coletivo Novo Bandung (São Paulo), with the support of Books for Change (New Delhi).

This book launch will also mark the relaunch of our Dialogue Series for 2022. We take this opportunity to thank our supporting partners in these Dialogues, namely the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana, the Global University for Sustainability (China), the Centre for Informal Sector and Labour Studies (India), ActionAid (India), the Post-graduate Programme in the Social Sciences of Development, Agriculture and Society at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and the Post-graduate Programme in World Political Economy at the Federal University of ABC (Brazil).
