RESUMO:

The post industrial society that emerged after the third industrial revolution changed the production relationships and the international labor division. The capital in the form of knowledge gained importance that was accompanied of the need for a legal system capable of meeting it. The most emphatic expression  of this change is the TRIPS agreement, that implemented minimal intellectual property protection standards and included new enforcement mechanisms. This study tries to understand the impact of such agreements on national economies through the measurement of the variations in the international balance of payments generated by such agreement.
