A CAMERA IN HAND AND A THOUSAND QUESTIONS IN MIND: Using educational video in Philosophy's teaching.

RESUMO:

The theme of this research is the video as an educational resource and its use in the teaching of philosophy. The video is a reality in people's lives today. In order to realize that, it is enough to take a quick look around. However, the massive presence of the video in contemporary society is not reflected in the same proportion in the school environment. And it is not only caused by teachers’ lack of formation, but it is a consequence on the lack of interest in developing educational resources for the teaching of some curricular components, as is the case of Philosophy. The situation is even more dramatic when we think about the absence of audiovisual resources for the teaching of these curricular components, especially of Philosophy. The research was carried out in three different stages. In the first stage, centered in the discussion about author’s teaching practice, we intended to present the institutional conditions in which it occurs, the philosophical conception that inform it, and the way in which it develops. In the second stage, centered on the discussion about video and education, we conducted a brief literature review, whose objective was to establish the state of art of using video in education. Finally, in the last stage, we presented - and produced - a proposal of educational video for Philosophy’s teaching by considering the elements discussed previously. The present research intended to face this problem by demonstrating that it is possible for any teacher, with basic equipment, to face this lack of materials, producing educational videos according to the needs imposed by their school reality, their conception of Philosophy and their practice of teaching.
