SUMMARY:

This research is a report on the inclusion of technology, specifically the internet used through smartphones in everyday life. The research was carried out with high school students, addressing in Philosophy classes and the Philosophy of Technology itinerary problematizations and reflections on their online experiences that were reported during classes. We discuss how the ubiquity of digital technology is in our culture and society, and the importance of critically reflecting on its impact on our behavior and conceptions of the world. Human interactions have been replaced by digital interactions, mediated by algorithms from large technology companies, which aim to predict and manipulate behaviors for commercial purposes. To awaken in high school students a critical engagement with philosophical issues related to technology, we used the documentary The Network Dilemma as a starting point for them to be led through a series of reflections and didactic activities designed to make them question and rethink the influence of technology on their lives. Concepts from technology philosophers such as Hypertext and Cyberspace by Pierre Lévy were used in classes for reflection and problematization. After showing the documentary, we created an activity with the students called Perceptions Board, where they expressed their reactions and reflections after watching it. The students' responses, which range from surprise and discomfort to a desire to disconnect from the online world, illustrate how awareness of online manipulations is relevant. Therefore, we must equip students with the necessary tools for a deep understanding and conscious interaction with the digital world so that they can face the ethical, social and personal challenges presented by technology in contemporary society.
