RESUMO:

The main objective of this paper is to identify whether the institutional environment, more specifically represented by the Central Bank's degree of independence, interferes with the effectiveness of Inflation Targets Policies. We will consider mainly developing countries, focusing on Brazil and other Latin American countries. The paper extends the analysis by Lee (2011), but seeks to investigate the impact of the institutional environment on the efficiency of this monetary policy.
