RESUMO:

According to the proponents of pluralism in economics, one of the requirements for Economics to be considered genuinely pluralistic is methodological plurality (Caldwell, 1994; Hands, 2001; Davis, 2006 and 2007; Dow, 2004 and Arnsperger and Varoufakis, 2008 ). The attitude of behavioral economics would contribute in this sense, as it is an interdisciplinary field of research, between economic science and psychology; its growing acceptance allows to affirm that it is part of the diverse groups of researchers that make up the economic mainstream of the 21st century (Dow, 2008). Some questions could be asked in relation to these highlighted themes. Could it be that the relevance of behavioral economics, regarding how individuals bring future values in present terms in situations of uncertainty, which allowed a plurality of applications of their ideas, could have given rise to a pluralist field of studies in the mainstream? If so, how can this debate on the format of intertemporal discount functions illuminate discussions about economic pluralism? Would it be possible to measure this possible level of economic pluralism, separating components that hold only plurality from pluralists, by analyzing their applications in various fields of economic research? To contribute to this discussion, trying to provide a poerspective of the economic methodology on the subject, this work proposes to analyze these themes through some methods of economic pluralism in the light of theoretical and empirical works, both from behavioral economics and the models to which it seeks to oppose and the work of other research areas that contemplated this debate.
