RESUMO:

The present study intends to analyze the potential of the use of sugarcane bagasse ashes (SBA) as an alternative filler in partial substitution to feldspar in the manufacture of porcelain stoneware, evaluating the physical and mechanical properties of this new material as well as the possibility of SBA to contribute in the increase of mechanical resistance of the coating. For this, both the raw materials components of the typical tri axle mass for ceramic coating (kaolin and / or clay, feldspar and quartz) and the SBA residue characterized as to their chemical composition, besides qualitative analysis of the present phases by means of X-ray diffraction. Ceramic masses containing up to 20% by weight of SBA will be prepared and the test bodies will obtained by pressing under compression pressure of 45 MPa and then sintered at temperatures of 1200 ° C and 1250 ° C. The physical properties of water absorption (WA), linear firing shrinkage (LFS), apparent specific mass, porosity and flexural strength (FS) will analyzed. The evolution of phases and sintered microstructure will evaluated in turn by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. In the evaluation of the flexural strength will be used the Weibull Statistical as a mathematical tool, which will allow obtaining the probability of survival of the pieces under study in front of the applied efforts. The preliminary results, obtained through formulation, indicated that it is possible to incorporate the SBA in the ceramic mass, thus contributing to the reduction of the consumption of raw materials and the environmental liabilities resulting from the burning of the bagasse.
