RESUMO:

Polymers capable of releasing natural extracts are relevant systems as they have potential applications in many fields, such as food packaging, wound care, cosmetics, and agriculture. The polymer protects the extract from degradation and exposes the extract's bioactivity. The Supercritical CO2 Impregnation (ICS) process is a promising alternative compared to other manufacturing processes used to prepare extract-releasing polymeric products, as it operates at low temperatures and allows the recovery of solvent-free products. In this work, we aim to study the impregnation of clove oil in poly(L-lactic acid) and in polycarbonate, varying the conditions of pressure and temperature. The amount of oil impregnated is rationalized. Furthermore, the composition of the impregnated extract is compared to that of the pure extract and it is observed that eugenol is impregnated in greater proportion while β-humulene is not impregnated, in the same way in the two polymers and in the different processing conditions, which shows that the composition of the extract varies. Antimicrobial activity is verified in the E. coli and S. Aureus strains.
