RESUMO:

This master thesis deals with an investigation of urban agriculture in the maintenance of green infrastructures, based on the approach of political ecology. In this way, it intends to understand the social, political and ecological dimensions of green infrastructures, the associated ecosystem services, and the socio-nature relations of urban agriculture. As a case study, urban agriculture will be presented from the point of view of the Association of Farmers of the East Zone - AAZL, located in São Mateus, a peripheral district located on the east end of the municipality of São Paulo. Mostly formed by female urban farmers, but also with the participation of  male farmers and other associates. The Association has the principle of agroecological transition and establishes important partnerships with society in addition to public and private institutions. In the master thesis, the agroecology approach was articulated to previous approaches, due to the researcher's affinity with the theme, but also to contextualize the importance of the agroecological transition in the context of urban agriculture, shedding light on the processes of agriculture that is both social and ecological.
