RESUMO:

The growth in the industrial sector, the change of habit and the increase of consumerism in the last decades have led to technological innovations and consequently to the higher production of consumer goods, which led to an increase in packaging production. Different materials have been used in the manufacture of food packaging, including metals, glass and polymers. To obtain product conservation each material has specific characteristics such as: gas barrier property, aroma, light, water, microorganisms and mechanical resistance. Brazil stands out for the availability of renewable natural resources, and these can be used in the development of biodegradable materials. A great interest in the research and development of biodegradable packaging has been aroused in recent years to reduce the accumulation of plastic waste in the environment. The aim of this study was to develop biodegradable flexible active films for food packaging using PBAT, a biodegradable polymer, and Moringa oleifera seed powder as antimicrobial, antibacterial and antifungal active agents. The methodology consists of Moringa powder characterization: (particle size analysis and optical microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis. (TGA) and PBAT: (FTIR and Raman spectroscopy) PBAT composite films with different moringa powder contents (0, 1, 3, 5 and 10% by mass) were prepared by the extender technique. Films with 1% Moringa oleifera seed powder showed better mechanical properties, and it is possible to evidence the possibility of obtaining an active antimicribian, antibacterial and antifungal biodegradable packaging that will preserve red fruits for a much longer time.
