RESUMO:
Thermoplastic starch (TPS) is a biodegradable polymer that has been studied for use in food packaging. Viscose fiber (VF) is widely used in the textile industry and during the spinning process part of the VF is discarded because it is smaller than the size required for spinning textiles. The nanoparticle of titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a semiconductor that exhibits antimicrobial activity, simultaneously. The use of TiO2 added to the properties of PV may increase the potential application of polymeric biocomposites. In this work the influence of TiO2 on the antimicrobial properties of TPS / FV biocomposites was evaluated for food packaging application. The starting materials and thin films of biocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction tests, infrared spectroscopy, optical microscopy, scanning microscopy, atomic force microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, moisture content and absorption.
