SUMMARY:

A major challenge in the development of nanotechnology is the control of the physicochemical properties, size, shape, and characterization of the materials produced. Therefore, many studies have been carried out to provide new tools to expand reproducible experimental conditions. Microfluidics is emerging and growing significantly as a powerful platform for manufacturing new biomaterials, diagnostics, simulations, and countless other fields of research, mainly because they work at scales in which some physical fluidic phenomena behave anomalously. Within microfluidic devices, very small volumes of reagents can be manipulated and controlled with high precision, thus allowing them to be very reproducible, characteristics that have caused very significant interest in the area of microfluidic devices (lab-on-chip). With technological advances in Raman microspectroscopy, it became possible to evaluate and characterize the behavior of fluids within these devices to reveal their chemical, structural, and conformational activities. Therefore, we investigated aqueous solutions involving alcohols, where previous studies report these systems as a model to facilitate the understanding of larger and more complex biomolecules. Here we report the characteristics in the fingerprint region (800 - 1500 cm-1) changing the concentration of the solutions, and also the internal pressure of the microfluidic channel to observe the conformational changes of the structures, including the stretching vibrations of the C - C and C – O bonds, which have never been identified by previous studies on microfluidic systems under pressure by experimental methods of vibrational spectroscopy. These new assignments not only clarify confusion in previous studies of different spectral methods but also provide a reliable basis for the spectral application of binary solutions in the future.
