FORMALISM AND SOME REFLEXES OF SET THEORY
Set theory offers a language to describe and analyze groupings of objects, as well as their structures, thus being an indispensable tool in several areas of science. In this study we will present a more formal approach that establishes some extensions to school contents and rules for the existence and formation of sets, avoiding contradictions and paradoxes.
The most up-to-date version of the BNCC, which is a document that establishes the essential knowledge, skills and abilities that students must develop throughout basic education in Brazil, does not mention the branch of set theory. However, it not being explicitly in the BNCC does not mean that it should not be addressed in mathematics teaching, quite the contrary, it is up to teachers to make choices about how to start and deepen the contents throughout the curriculum.
