RESUMO:
In applied and computer science, there are several problems that consist of adjusting a model formulated 
theoretically to a set of data obtained from an experiment or numerical simulation. This adjustment consists 
of determining a finite set of parameters for which the model best fits the data. A natural way to solve this 
problem is to treat it as an optimization problem. The goal is to minimize an objective function, dependent 
on parameters, that is defined as the sum of the squares of the distances between the model and the observed 
data. In this work, we study modern methods that find the minimum of such problems and propose a new 
method based on them. In general, our proposal consists of combining traditional techniques of the 
Levenberg-Marquardt method with a correction vector that contains second-order information of the residues.
We propose three modifications to the method in order to improve its numerical efficiency. We describe the theory of the 
method and obtain two theorems about its convergence. We also perform some numerical tests. The results 
indicate that our proposed method is promising since in some cases the number of iterations significantly decreases.
