SUMMARY:

The CP violation in the Standard Model (SM) is intimately connected to flavor violation and it is only possible in the presence of three quark families. There is a single source of CP violation in the SM and this violation can be quantified in a basis or rephasing invariant manner through the Jarlskog invariant. We review these properties of the SM and present the method based on the Hilbert series to list the invariants and their degree. With that, we rederive the flavor invariants of the quark sector of the SM.
