SUMMARY:

Quantum Field Theory in Curved Spacetimes (QFTCS) makes robust predictions in situations concerning quantum fields in the presence of strong (classical) gravitational fields. However, most of its results are obtained in a perturbative regime. In this project we intend to go one step further and analyze non-pertubative aspects of QFTCS. To do so, we will use the so-called Functional Renormalization Group (FRG), which allows applications of approximation techniques that go beyond usual perturbation theory. Thereby, we intend to shed new light on some open problems in this area, with particular interest in studying the relation between entanglement entropy of interacting field theories and the entropy of black holes.
