RESUMO:

Will is a central concept in Augustinian philosophy. It is the motor of the human search for the happy life that is only possible with God. However, endowed with free will, the human will can choose not to turn to God, assuming a fallen condition. In this scenario, the human being is constituted by a double inclination: the will of happiness, which tends to the love of God, and the concupiscence, which not tends to the love of God, but to creatures (world and human being). These two opposing wills split the human soul and establish an internal conflict. The purpose of this dissertation is to examine the concupiscences and the split of the will. For this, we will analyze the VIII and X books of the Confessions.
