SUMMARY:

This work developed an educational product that uses simulators to teach the concept of energy in physics to high school students, using an initial problem-situation in order to enable the construction of knowledge and the restructuring of the students' previous concepts. The proposal is based on the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning (TCAM) developed by Richard E. Mayer with the Investigative Teaching Sequence (SEI) proposed by Anna Maria Pessoa de Carvalho. The product of this work was applied to 190 (one hundred and ninety) students from two professional public high schools (Etecs), one in São Paulo/SP and the other in Guarulhos/SP. All students had access to the same simulators and study materials. Information on each student's previous knowledge was collected, as well as a diagnostic evaluation of the acquired knowledge and a qualitative evaluation of the application of the product, using open and multiple choice questions. An analysis of the responses was carried out and it can be seen that, in addition to serving as a stimulus for the study, the simulators were well accepted and, through the use of the methodology proposed by this work, positive results were obtained for the acquisition, restructuring and retention of energy-related concepts by students. Through the analysis of the questionnaires and the discussions carried out in the classroom, a significant evolution and in the performance of the students was verified. One can also observe an increase in autonomy and independence in the search for information and exchange of knowledge among students, favoring the socialization and involvement of those who had some shyness, mainly in exposing their ideas and their points of view.
