RESUMO:

The present work proposes the development of an educational product aimed at teaching geometric optics for the second year of high school, having as its motivation the History of Physics, especially about the narrative that tells that the greek Archimedes from Siracusa (287 b.C. – 212 b.C.) would have burned ships using the reflection of solar rays in mirrors, the problematization of our work revolves around the question: Would it be possible to burn ships by solar radiation reflected in mirrors? We approach the theme from the perspective of David Paul Ausubel meaningful learning, which highlights the students' prior knowledge, which should serve as anchors for cognition, thus producing new knowledge. In the construction and application of the educational product, different types of teaching materials were adopted: handouts, books, videos, Google forms, Geogebra dynamic geometry software, among others. For the development of the classes, the practice of teaching an active methodology was adopted, such as an inverted classroom and debates. The teaching proposal presented improvements on the students' conceptions regarding physical concepts related to geometric optics and a significant increase in the students' engagement with the contents to be taught.
