SUMMARY:

In the design and assessment of structures subjected to dynamic loads, it is common to
use deterministic methods to predict their behavior and ensure their safety. However, these
methods have limitations since they do not consider the inherent uncertainties in loads
and structural materials. Environmental loads such as winds, earthquakes, and waves
are intrinsically random processes, as well as the properties of the materials used in the
structural elements, making deterministic methods not comprehensive. On the other hand,
reliability analysis considers these uncertainties and promotes a more complete assessment
of structural performance, providing the probability of failure of violating a limit state.
The unpredictability of actions, variability in material properties, and imprecisions of
analytical models can have a significant impact on the integrity and safety of buildings,
bridges, dams, etc. Therefore, accurate and efficient analysis of these structures is essential
to ensure their reliability and user safety. The objective of this work is to explore the
concepts of the theory of structural reliability and to develop programs in MATLAB®
language for reliability analysis of structures subjected to dynamic loads, incorporating
methods for dynamic analysis of structures to reliability analysis methods, such as Monte
Carlo simulation and transformation methods. It is expected that the programs developed
in this study can serve as tools for engineers and researchers who need to determine
the probability of failure of structures, assisting them in both new projects and in the
evaluation of existing structures.
