SUMMARY:


The objective of this work is to perform a comparative analysis between analytical and
analytical and numerical methods (implemented using 2D and 3D finite element software)
in the design of a 3.88 MVA, 710 V, 145 Hz permanent magnet synchronous generator
with a focus on wind power generation, for high power D-type wind turbines. For this an
analytical solving method is proposed using firstly NdFeB magnets in the rotor. After
this step the analytical results were compared with the numerical results and showed
satisfactory results, with an average error margin of about 3% (2D simulation) and 37.3
mT (3D simulation). In the second step of the project, AlNiCo magnets were used in the
rotor, however, the analytical and numerical results showed high average error, making the
previous method, used for NdFeB magnets, not suitable, requiring changes in the method.
Therefore, a method for readjusting the volume calculation of magnets is proposed, using
a numerical and analytical method. After these changes, the results were satisfactory, with
a calculated average error margin of about 4%. The analytical and numerical results were
commented and presented at the end of this work for the validation of the methodologies
(NdFeB and AlNiCo magnets).
