SUMMARY:
 This dissertation starts with a theorical revision of induction machine drives, from scalar control
to indirect and direct field orientation methods. Then, introducts the concept of predictive control
and Finite Control Set (FCS) for power electronics. It describes the Predictive Torque control
(PTC) and Predictive Current Control (PCC) (based on deadbeat and feedfoward control for
parametric robustness) using the FCS scheme to eliminate modulation on output stage. It also
describes a Discrete Space Vector Modulation (DSVM) to be used with FCS controllers, were
more than one voltage vetor is applied in each sample time, and an adaptive flux estimator
intended to increase the parametric robustness of the controller in a wide speed range. A
delay compensation method (prediction in(k+ 2)) is analysed and experimentally tested. The
simulation and experimental results show a great dynamic response and very little steady state
error in current and speed control using PI. The DSVM results with three vectors shows a
reduction in current distortion and torque ripple for the same sampling frequency but shows
similar results when compared to a classical aproach with three times the sampling frequency.
The robust current control with indirect orientation maintened it’s performance for stator and
rotor resistance variations up to+300%in experimental results. With direct orientation using
the adaptive estimator the control performance start degraded at100%of resistances error, and
brought poor performance and increased current distortion in transient operation, evidencing that
Indirect orientation may be a better option with smaller computational burden and no impact in
the robustness of the controller up to 100% parametric variation in resistances
