RESUMO:

This project aims to analyze the union networks by company as instruments for the organization of metallurgical workers in Brazil, their limits and prospects for success in the globalized world, considering the current union challenges in contemporary capitalism. The characteristics of these networks will be explored, in what context they arise and how they operate, especially in the metallurgical industry. These networks are made up of groups of workers from a specific transnational company that communicate permanently and build actions that aim to reduce the differences in working conditions between the different plants of the company at national or international level. Some crucial points to understand them will be addressed: a brief historical rescue of international unionism; the influence of European unionism in Brazil; the organization of the official Brazilian union structure; the recent organization of capital in Global Value Chains and their impacts on labor relations and the union movement. In addition to the theoretical construction, we intend to analyze two metallurgical union networks, the Union Network at Arcelor Mittal and ThyssenKrupp. Reports of meetings of the network already carried out, documents produced during its performance and semi-structured interviews with the coordinators and members of the networks will be analyzed. It is expected that at the end of the research, reflections are pointed out about the functionality of this instrument of union organization, as it is structured and if it can be an alternative to face the inequalities produced in the face of the current challenges for the struggle between capital and labor.
