SUMMARY:

The central theme of this research is focused on the Roda de Capoeira at Praça da República in São Paulo and its power relations through the occupation of territory via the presence of the body and the performance of singing. The problem suggests social events that may influence changes in oral expressiveness and corporeality in the face of capoeira's occupation of public space in a (structurally racist) society. The research main question is: can the capoeira be a depository of memories that indicates changes in orality and corporeality as an indication of resistance to violence(s)? The central objective is to understand the meaning of the presence of the capoeira circle located in Praça da República/SP. The research method consists of a State of the Art review on capoeira, as well as the use of Oral History practices through a structured questionnaire.
