SUMMARY:

This research, entitled “The PT and the racial question in Brazil: ambivalences and antinomies”, analyzes the relationship between the PT and the racial question in Brazil – from the period of its foundation, in 1980, until the first years of Dilma Rousseff’s government – in private his anti-racism limited by the structural constraints of racist society and State in Brazil. The methodology used will be qualitative, based on analysis of documents and interviews. To base our arguments, we will use, in addition to a bibliography focused on the racial question in the PT, various documents related to the party, such as resolutions of congresses and national meetings, among others. The argument is that by moving within the limits of Brazilian racist institutional, the PT engaged in a reformist anti-racist struggle without the possibility of overcoming racism, since these same institutional were shaped by social relations arising from slavery and by a constantly updated colonial violence.
