INTERSECTIONS BETWEEN MATERNITIES AND EXPERIENCES OF SEXUALITIES: women who are mothers and are single

SUMMARY:

This research aims to discuss the exercise of women's sexuality, without reproductive purposes, that is, recreational sexual relations, specifically those who are mothers and are single. The hypothesis is that there are reproductions of violence, prejudice and stereotypes, as well as taboos that hinder the full experience of sexualities by women who are mothers. The proposal seeks to understand the construction of motherhood, especially in the West and in Brazil, considering the feeling of guilt and physical and emotional overload, arising from reproductive work. As a methodological path, the proposal is to use theoretical contributions from Social Sciences, Psychology and scholars who write about women's history, maternity and reproduction. Whenever possible, works written by women were privileged, with attention to the recurring invisibilization of the scientific work developed by researchers, as well as contributing to the disruption of the story told through the hegemonic male narrative. As a result of the theme and the subjects involved, the choice for a feminist epistemology will be valued as a way to broaden and deepen the understanding of the intersection between motherhood and sexualities. In order to qualify the work, there was an interest in gathering information and, through questionnaire responses, seeking information on how women who are mothers and do not have a steady partner, try to experience their sexualities, as well as what difficulties they encounter. For this reason, we opted for the already popular tool for creating the Google forms, making possible a broader and more diffuse exploration, collecting data from women from different locations, including from other states of the country. The main focus was limited to women within the age range of 18 to 61 years old, who are mothers of children up to 12 years old and who consider themselves to be single. The instrument involved 36 questions, part of which dealt with descriptive aspects, such as: gender identity, age, race, education, religion, number of children/children and age of the youngest child. A second part of the form focused on topics that included how and where these women looked for partners, with whom they allowed their child(ren) to go on dates, among others. A total of 82 valid guidelines were obtained, disregarding responses that were invalidated due to filling out or filtering. The results point to issues permeated by social stereotypes. It is intended to contribute to the process of denaturalization of contemporary ideals related to a single and standard motherhood and to highlight women's desires, beyond motherhood. With the understanding that there is no motherhood, but maternal experiences and that care can be exercised by people, regardless of sex and/or gender.
