SUMMARY:

This Master's Dissertation is developed in the area of Sociology of Work, especially in the study of organizations of uberized workers; The research is under the umbrella of the Research Line “Work, Migrations and Social Policies” of the Postgraduate Program in Human and Social Sciences (PCHS) of the Federal University of ABC (UFABC), as well as, linked to the Group of Research “Politics, Public Policies and Collective Action (3PAC/CNPQ)” also from UFABC. We treat here the uberization of work, a typical phenomenon of the 21st century, as one more step in the process of productive restructuring that dissolved mediations and agreements between capital and work that lasted for a good part of the 20th century, known from the production side as Fordism and in the field of national States as models of the Social Welfare State. In this sense, the uberization of work means a process of labor relations outside the protective padding of the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT) and, even more, outside the very condition of salaried workers, because this condition is denied by the lexicon conveyed by companies that are based on neoliberal values such as partnerships and self-enterprises. These elements are also combined with a brutal deepening of the control of these workers based on information and communication technologies (ICTs). However, despite this scenario of individualization of work and millimetric control, the uberized have managed to collectively organize themselves for a work counter-offensive in different parts of the world and in Brazil. Therefore, the primary objective of this work is to understand the collective organization of one of the main categories of uberized work: app delivery people. Here we focus on the couriers who organize the Breques dos Apps in the metropolitan region of São Paulo in the light of Thompson's concepts of experience and social class (1981, 1998, 2001). For this, the analysis focused on the calls made by the so-called “front-line” couriers, that is, those who work in the organization of the Breques. From a methodological point of view, a qualitative approach was used with four semi-structured interviews and direct observation of the preparation meetings for the national mobilization that took place on September 11, 2021 and two places of stoppage on the day of the event. In this way, this dissertation intended to take a step forward in understanding the phenomenon of the uberization of work from the perspective of alternatives created by the workers themselves. As a result, we point to a process, albeit contradictory and initial, of building a collective agency, a notion of class, based on the workers' experiences at work, the relationship with other members of the category and with the mobilization processes. This conformation of a new sector of the working class as a political agent, that is, one that moves and perceives itself as a class, seeks to respond directly to demands linked to the reality of uberized work, such as: increase in the remuneration of couriers and rules that limit the control of platforms on workers.
