Resistant Bodies: Artivism and Feminism in Latin America.

PÁGINAS: 220
GRANDE ÁREA: Outra
ÁREA: Multidisciplinar
RESUMO:

The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the role of the body in the feminist artivism that emerged in Latin America, especially in Brazil, Chile and Argentina, since the 1970s, situating it within the second wave of feminism that erupted at the same time in this region. As a sample, I take three works that I consider to be quite illustrative of this type of production. They are: Marca Registrada (1975) by Brazilian artist Letícia Parente (1930-1991), Popsicles (1984) by Chilean Glória Camiruaga (1940-2006) and Sin Título. Liliana Maresca con su obra (1983), by Argentinian Liliana Maresca (1951-1994). First, I present the context of the military dictatorships in Brazil, Chile, and Argentina, as it permeated Latin America in the 1970s and 1980s, having an influence on these works. This was done based on the historical and sociological literature, as well as on the reports of the National Truth Commissions that took place in these countries, preserving their respective particularities. In the second part, I discuss the historical connection that has been established between the body and power, using Foucault´s theory as a reference, and make a connection with the violence committed against women's bodies during the military regime. The third chapter presents Latin American feminist artivism, investigating how it has established the relations between art, body, politics, and feminism. To accomplish this goal, it was used an interdisciplinary bibliography from several fields of knowledge and, above all, from researchers who theorize about this type of production. Finally, in the fourth and last chapter, I perform a socio-historical analysis of the three works mentioned above, using the reproductions of the works - available online - and taking as a basis the theories discussed throughout this dissertation, prioritizing a women's and feminist bibliography, as well as the literature on the authors. In making room to promote a discussion about these issues, the artistic field constitutes a space of confluence between poetics and politics, becoming a space to produce resistance and thus differentiating itself from other forms of activism.
