RESUMO:

The present dissertation has as a research problem to analyze the process of identity reconfiguration and alterity of Haitians, Nigerians, Congolese, Benin, Kenyan and Cameroonians in their current condition as “foreigners”, based on an ethnographic work. Such ethnographic work will be based, above all, on an urban ethnography in the terms of Agier (2010), about black migrant experiences in the neighborhood of Guaianases, located in the extreme east of the city of São Paulo. As an objective, we are interested here in understanding the collective representations of relationships of alliances, belonging and solidarity that these black and peripheral migrant communities build among themselves, in the context of their establishment in a distant country, whose language, habits and practices are largely part, far from yours. In practical terms, we want to investigate to what extent the notion of “production of localities” by Appadurai (2001), an inherent phenomenon of expression of otherness in the globalized world, can be gauged in this São Paulo neighborhood. We seek, therefore, to make visible the experiences and perceptions of these subjects about the processes of construction and deconstruction of identities and otherness, relating them, for example, to the material and symbolic dimensions of religiosity and their access to the city, housing, labor market and social protection services.
