RESUMO:

This research intends to answer if the changes in Brazilian prison system over the past 30 years, on how inmates organize themselves, especially after the consolidation of First Command of the Capital (PCC) hegemony, has produced effects on the work of Penitentiary Security Agents (ASPs), now criminal police officers. The aim is to analyze the transformations that occurred on workers' professional performance in São Paulo prison units, in terms of relationships established between them and the prisoners, in a scenario of prison system's factionalization. For this purpose, it will be necessary to understand the work developed by these agents, according to the official rules that regulate the profession, and to understand the demands for changes in exercise of the profession. In this regard, the criminal police’s creation will be observed as an agenda for rights and the potential impacts on guidelines and character of these workers primary function – being no longer a resocialization agent to become a police officer – acting only in the custody from a militarized and authoritarian perspective. At the same time, it aims to resume the researches that already has described and analyzed the history and dynamics of the PCC's actions, in order to understand how the internal rules established by the faction in São Paulo prisons among the prison masses can influence the public agents’ performance. This research will be conducted through primary sources, using interviews with criminal police officers, data and official documents from the State and through secondary sources, based on the bibliographic review. Therefore, it intends to understand the transformations of the prison agent performance from these professionals’ perceptions and representations, considering their own experiences and corporate demands.
