RESUMO:

This work presents the preliminary results of research that has the management of sexuality in female prisons as its central point of analysis. With the objective of studying the construction of gender and sexual identities, especially the gender expression "sapatão", the work will seek to understand the senses and meanings that accompany some performances in prison. For this, a conceptual and historical incursion will be made in the category "gender", through the contributions of queer and post-structuralist theorists, having as reference the instability of categories and identities, at the same time that Foucault's "deployment of sexuality" will be used as a key to understanding many processes, including to understand gender in prison. The privileged methodological instrument of investigation will be the participant observation carried out in the Penitenciária Feminina de Sant’anna in 2016 that will be accompanied by genealogical research on gender in prisons, because the power relations that accompany the formation of gender identities and performances can be better identified when we make a historical effort in search of the reasons for the emergence of women's prisons, since gender, race and sexuality constitute prison culture, subsidizing processes of normalization and control of women in incarceration. The partially constructed hypothesis indicates the elaboration of identities under negotiation, disruptive in terms of understanding of gender expression (when speaking of the "sapatão"), challenging binarism by imprinting masculinity in women's bodies; but reproducing the categories of oppression in their agency and relations, as it mobilizes the position of "sapatão" to ensure privileges of heternormativity and patriarchy, operating in the prison setting
