Female migration and human development: potentialities of agency
The object of this work is the women who voluntarily migrate from one country to another. The analysis is based on the approach of Amartya Sen on human development and main lye on the concept of freedom of agency. So, it is discussed to what extent human development is enhanced by the free domand capacity of women to migrate, and about the possibility of enlarging their capabilities through migration. This research is in accordance with migratory studies that observe how gender conditions the lives of women in a different way from men due to the existing hierarchies, relations hips and social roles. As well, as they are international migrations, issues related to nationality, race, social class and how they intersect are also discussed. Based on these theoretical and conceptual references, two cases of migrations of women are discussed and, through the methodology of case studies with a comparative analysis, the peculiarities of each migratory experience are highlighted and it is shown advances and obstacles to the human development of migrant women.
