RESUMO:

This ethnographic research aims to analyze the social process of insertion and establishment of Haitian and 

African migrants in the Guaianases neighborhood, east side of the city of São Paulo, with special attention to the

establishment of networks of solidarity, kinship and friendship that keep their communities active and united 

in the neighborhood. We will try to identify the nature of each of these networks, and their particular forms of 

adhesion, which can be constituted from the specific relationships of the world of work, community life, 

religious adhesion, or even other social and symbolic relationships. 

Based on fieldwork and participant observation, we aim to understand, based on the experience of these migrants, 

the specifics of the migrant presence in a peripheral context, as well as participate in the effort made by an 

important part of the social sciences (especially anthropology ), from contemporary diasporas. 

We also aim to dialogue, based on this particular work, with anthropological research that analyzes the place of 

difference and otherness in the contemporary world.
