RESUMO:

The environmental concern with the treatment and final disposal of municipal solid waste generated in cities has increased worldwide. In São Paulo, the largest city of the Latin America, the use of sanitary landfills is preponderant and initiatives that incorporate treatment technologies with the objective of recovering recyclable materials, composting and energy generation are insipient. In this context, the main objective of this work is to evaluate the treatment technologies currently used in other countries and propose the better treatment scenario that incorporates the segregation of the recoverable fraction to return as raw material to industry or for use in processes as a source of energy, for São Paulo city. The survey used the gravimetrical composition obtained during 2017 and 2018 for the Southeastern group of the municipality of São Paulo. The characteristics of the waste generated were the main factor for the choice of the treatment technology and consequent recovery efficiency, and the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), considering factors such as environmental, financial, technical and social of the municipality. The expectation is to provide a solution, which the maximum recovery of solid household waste avoiding the great amount disposed today into the sanitary landfills.
