SUMMARY:

Exotic species is any species that inhabits a region other than its natural range. The wild boar (Sus scrofa) had its introduction in Brazil at different historical moments and today has a wide spatial coverage in the Brazilian territory with negative effects on the habitats in which it is found, enhanced by the wild, predatory and territorial character of the species. Invasive exotic animal in its definition and in view of its wide distribution in the national territory, the project intends to analyze in which regions of Brazil the wild boar (Sus scrofa) has invasive potential based on the environmental characteristics of the habitats in which the animal is currently distributed. Using as a theoretical apparatus the bibliographical review of the processes of introduction and occupation in Brazil, the impacts and harms on biodiversity, the current legislation that deals with the regulations regarding the management of the animal and its proliferation in the country, as well as the controversial effects of hunting the animal  as a method the application of predictive modeling of potential distribution of the species to identify possible patterns of occupation in the habitats currently occupied through selected environmental variables and to gather indications of
expansion in Brazil. With the aid of modeling tools and geographic information systems, new foci of the spatial distribution of wild boar in Brazil can be identified.
