SUMMARY:

The environment provides various essential services to human life, known as ecosystem services, which allow for a better understanding of the strong connection between nature and society. Water-related ecosystem services are directly linked to the quality and quantity of water, which, in turn, depend on the type and land use configuration. This study aims to analyze the water quality in microbasins in the Santo André region and relate it to the main components of the urban landscape, such as the percentage of forest-covered areas, impermeability, and microbasin slope. The project aims to assess the contribution of urban parks to water quality in the municipality of Santo André and examine how urbanization affects the concentration of potentially toxic metals in the city's rivers. By the end of the project, it is expected to observe the positive impact of urban parks on water quality and understand how urbanization influences the levels of potentially toxic metals in the municipality's rivers. To achieve these objectives, water samples will be collected from various microbasins in the Santo André region. The samples will undergo laboratory analysis to determine the quality parameters, including the concentration of potentially toxic metals. Additionally, data regarding the urban landscape components, such as forest cover percentage, impermeability, and microbasin slope, will be collected and analyzed. The findings of this research will provide valuable insights into the relationship between urbanization, water quality, and the presence of potentially toxic metals. It will contribute to a better understanding of the importance of urban parks in maintaining water quality and inform urban planning and environmental management strategies in the municipality of Santo André.
