The assessment of flood damage is essential to support decisions in urban areas, providing the basis for cost-benefit analysis of intervention measures for flood control. This work aims the elaboration of flood damage curves for the Ipiranga stream watershed, a function that relates the damage caused by a flood with its submersion level. For this, the morphometric and hydroclimatological characterization of the study basin and the hydrological modeling for 10, 25 and 100 Return Period (RP) rainfall was performed, and the parameters Curve Number, LagTime and K Muskingum were calibrated based on 11 observed events. The calibrated project flows were obtained in this last section and were used in the hydraulic modeling to generate flood spots of RP 10, 25, 100 for the study region, which were used for the delimitation, via Georeferenced Information Systems (GIS), of the properties hit by the flood for different probabilities. The rainfall calibrated in the hydrological modeling stage showed, on average, a peak flow of 16%, greater than the values obtained before calibration. The simulated flood spots have an area of 1.79km² for RP 10, 1.98km² for RP 25 and 2.21km² for RP 100, and in that order, they reach around 3019, 3423 and 3854 properties in the region for the TR’s of study. The damage-depth function defined for the Ipiranga watershed, referring to the structures and contents of the properties, found the loss of R$ 17,93 millions for TR 10, R$ 20,60 millions for TR 25 and R$ 23,68 millions for TR 100. The sectors affected by flooding in the watershed converge mostly with flood events already mapped in the basin by other authors, and the estimated flood spots are shown to be usable for planning actions in the region. The results obtained highlight the importance of investing in flood prevention measures and demonstrate the importance of calibrating models with observed data, because the variation of the results obtained from initial estimates can be significant, as in this case.
