TÍTULO:
Establishment of predictability indices of extreme flows associated with precipitation in Brazilian hydrographic basins

PÁGINAS: 100
GRANDE ÁREA: Ciências Exatas e da Terra
ÁREA: Geociências
RESUMO:

Interannual variability in precipitation can cause streamflow anomalies and depending on the intensity and persistence lead to the occurrence of extreme cases, which can affect the availability of water resources and impact different socioeconomic activities. The aim of this study is to investigate, monthly and annual scale, the influence of precipitation variations on the streamflow at hydroelectric station. For that, four stations were selected: Jurumirim (Paraná River Basin), Porto Primavera (Paraná River Basin), Sobradinho (São Francisco River Basin), and Tucuruí (Tocantins River Basin). The precipitation stations upstream of the streamflow points were grouped into homogeneous precipitation regions. The streamflow station of Jurumirim had only one region, Porto Primavera eight, Sobradinho five and Tucuruí six regions of homogeneous precipitation. A simple correlation analysis was performed with different lags (monthly and annual) between streamflow series and precipitation indices constructed with the objective of identifying how the streamflow is influenced by precipitation. Different precipitation indices were used that identify the amount of extreme rainy and dry events defined by different quantile thresholds, accumulated and average precipitation on humid days, average and maximum sequences of days with and without precipitation, count of days without precipitation and with precipitation above 1 mm, 10 mm, 20 mm and 30 mm and the accumulated value of precipitation in one, three, five, seven and ten consecutive days, where a distinct set of indices was identified for each region of homogeneous precipitation, indicating that there is a difference in the behavior of the contribution of precipitation in each area of the basins. In general, the indices of accumulated values of precipitation on humid days and the indices of counting days from quantile thresholds stood out. As next steps, a multiple linear regression model will be carried out with the best indices found through the stepwise method. The results of this study may contribute to a better understanding of the influence of precipitation variations on the streamflow and help in the predictability of this variable, especially regarding extreme events
