RESUMO:

Protected areas are essential to promote human well-beinge and prevent the loss of biodiversity, through the sustainable economic activities developed in some region. The southern coast of the State of São Paulo has one of the most preserved Atlantic Forest remnants in the State, included in the Juréia-Itatins Conservation Units Mosaic (MUCJI) that it was created to maintain the sustainability of traditional communities and preserve the richness of landscapes and biodiversity. This paper analyze the landscape dinamic that occurred between 1989 (before the MUCJI establishment) and 2020 (current). We quantified and specialized the territorial dynamics; and we discussed the environmental, political and social consequences arising from these changes and the determining factors, using geoprocessing and remote sensing tools. Based on the trajectory of land use and coverage, future scenarios will be projected over 30-years, supporting the debate on MUCJI zoning, by simulating the implementation (or not) of public policies. The results and products of this project will contribute to understanding the relationship between land use and land cover in the MUCJI, expanding the geographic historiography, listing the changes that have taken place in the territorial dynamics of protected areas and inferring the annual carbon stock of the MUCJI. In addition, the results of this project will help managers to explain the land use and land cover dynamic in the MUCJI.
