RESUMO:

The objective of this work was to qualitatively and comparatively analyze the five evaluation reports published from 1990 to 2014 by the IPCC, with a focus on Working Group II – Adaptation and Vulnerability Impacts. Specifically, the evolution of Brazilian research published in the evaluation reports will be presented, its evolution and improvement in quantity and quality that highlight the risks of impacts, vulnerabilities and adaptations to Brazilian systems: Hydrology and Water Resources and Human Settlements. In addition, a practical study will be carried out on the impact of increased air temperature, rainfall variability and the occurrence of disasters due to climate extremes in Southeastern Brazil. The research used historical and comparative methods to present the advance of Brazilian research and the current knowledge of Brazilian environmental systems in the act of scrutinizing in detail this evolution in research, in the scope of the development of adaptation capacities of the systems under study for Brazil. And for the case study the assessments of temperature and precipitation changes comprise SWL2.0 and SWL4.0 warming scenarios derived from the TerraClimate database. For the historical and comparative evaluation, the results will be presented in order to evidence the researches carried out by Brazilian authors and their evolution along with the IPCC reports. Thus, seeking to contribute to the understanding of climate change and its interference in human and natural systems in terms of risks, impacts, vulnerabilities and development of adaptive capacity for purposes of better understanding for research and for collaboration with society.
