RESUMO:

Neglected tropical diseases affect more than one billion individuals worldwide, mainly populations living in poverty. In this context, chagas disease, whose etiologic agent is the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi, afflicts millions in Latin America. Benzidazole, developed decades ago, is the only medication available in Brazil and very limited due to side effects. Therefore, the search for new drugs is essential. Therefore, natural products offer a substantial variety of compounds that can be used to develop new therapies. Porcelia macrocarpa is a plant species endemic to Brazil and has several metabolites, including alkaloids, fatty acids and acetogenins, which showed activity for T. cruzi. Therefore, in order to isolate similar and unpublished compounds of this species, the MeOH extract from the peels of the fruits of P. macrocarpa demonstrated anti-T activity. cruzi (100% death for trypomastigote forms at 300 µg / mL) and underwent bioactivity-guided chromatographic fractionation. From this process, two mixtures composed of acetylenic acetogenins have been obtained so far, of which four are unpublished in the literature. The structures of the substances were defined through the analysis of NMR spectra and mass spectrometry.
