RESUMO:

Rice is an annual cycle plant, usually grown in flooded soils, but thrives well in dry (dryland or highland) soils. It is from the family of grasses, of the genus Oryza, which has around twenty species, the most cultivated being Oryza sativa L. It is the most important staple food in Asia, and is also considered a source of cadmium and arsenic exposure in human consumption in some parts of Japan, India and China. Several methods have been developed in recent decades, including: genetic improvement of rice cultivars that reduce arsenic and cadmium accumulation and irrigation water management, which is another promising method that affects the bioavailability of cadmium and arsenic in soil and its subsequent absorption. The present work aims to verify the influence of water regime on the absorption and translocation of cadmium and arsenic in rice cultivar GURI INTA CL (Oryza Sativa L.). Forty-eight groups were planted in plastic containers, 16 groups in the high-blade irrigation regime (water 3.0 cm high above ground level), 16 groups in the low-blade irrigation regime (ground-level flush water) and 16 rainfed irrigation groups (water 15 cm above the ground, controlled through the transparent side tube), each of these regimes having four subgroups with the following different soil treatments: the first subgroup is a soil where solution was added 10 mg.Kg-1, the second subgroup is a soil where 10 mg.Kg-1 concentration Cd solution was added, the third subgroup, a soil where (10 mg.Kg-1 solution was added 1 of Cd + 10 mg.Kg-1 of As) and the control group, soil without addition of solution of the respective metals. After rice cultivation, parts of the plant (soil, root, stem and grains) were sampled, which were treated correctly, to be analyzed in ICP-MS the amounts of As and Cd. The results showed that under conditions of flooded soil, there is a greater bioavailability of As, causing an increase in the concentration of this metal in the roots and grains, unlike the rainfed irrigation system, where there is greater bioavailability of Cd, and consequently higher concentration of Cd in roots and grains.
