RESUMO:

According to the World Health Organization, a "drug is any natural or synthetic substance that, when introduced to a living organism, can modify one or more of its functions". The annual UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) report revealed that in 2016 about 275 million people worldwide between the ages of 15 and 64 used some type of psychotropic drug at least once during the year, representing approximately 5.6% of the world population in this age group. This report points to an increase of 60% in the number of deaths caused by the effects of drug use between 2000 and 2015. The prevalence profile for drug use in Brazil puts solvents/inhalants in a prominent place. They are among the most common choices made by younger users, along with alcohol and marijuana. Trichloroethylene is a chlorinated hydrocarbon commonly used as an industrial solvent. The medical-legal forensic team of the eastern zone of São Paulo has verified its presence in toxological tests on autopsied cadavers when suspecting death due to exogenous intoxication. From appropriate association rule mining techniques, combined with other approaches to data mining, we obtained evidence of the presence of trichlorethylene in a significant portion of poisoning-related death cases. It was possible to study the profile of this population from the inferred rules of association. The results presented here may support authorities and researchers about the serious consequences for users, their families and society about the use of trichlorethylene for recreational purposes.
