SUMMARY:

We are living in the information age, in which the discovery of new opportunities takes place through the data produced daily on the Internet. These data produced on an exponential scale created new areas of research such as Big Data, the Internet of Things (IoT) among others. A class of systems that has used data support in its operations is the Decision Support System (DSS). DSS are generically speaking, any system that uses data to support decision making. Currently, SAD has become an research area with solid definitions in the literature. Decision Support Systems (DSS) are growing over the years. Within the need for information, DSS are taking advantage of the increase in Internet access and the use of electronic devices as a means of massive data production. This large volume of data (Big Data) for processing makes the market more competitive and makes the decision-making process increasingly assertive. In this sense, Visual Analytics (VA) emerges as a means to allow better use and exploration of these volumes of data through computational power, high interactivity and human thinking. Although the VA has already presented its advantages in SAD, its implementation is not a trivial task, currently lacking implementation and evaluation methods. The literature points out development patterns for visualization tools, indicating structures to support data exploration, integration of new visualization techniques, among others. While the VA area has a lack of descriptive theorical basis. The main objective of this work is to present a VA focused taxonomy of DSS architectures. For this, the project was divided into two main tasks: a) Literature review through a systematic mapping, where the main gaps in the research area were identified; b) Development and Evaluation of the taxonomy. The methodologies, as well as their phases and their results will be discussed in the course of the work. As the main results and contributions of this work, the taxonomy was able to identify the architectural aspects for implementing VA within a DSS architecture. These architectural aspects present implementation variations and can support the design of architectures that implements VA, indicating, for example, which aspects can be considered in the architecture.
