A guideline for elaborating a digital transformation strategy: a plan for different contexts.
A well-crafted digital transformation strategy is critical to the success of a digital transformation. Therefore, clear and broad guidelines can facilitate this process. In this context, this work aims to adapt and expand several existing guidelines, and to develop a set of instructions that are comprehensive for several areas. To this end, a literature search was carried out in order to find mechanisms to develop digital transformation strategies, including their respective stages and the difficulties in the transformation process. Subsequently, based on the literature, a round of questionnaires was carried out via the internet with volunteers from different organizations, in order to validate and observe the results of the existing guidelines. In short, through the analysis of the results, comments and challenges reported in the literature, a document was prepared with instructions and a diagram compiling all the adapted and expanded steps, which will be available to any manager or interested organization, documents that will be validated in a second round of questionnaires. Finally, related works suggest guidelines derived from reports of organizations that were successful in the transformation process, thus not covering different categories of organizations, for example, in academic settings or non-profit organizations. This work expands the scope of the guidelines to develop a digital transformation strategy.
